CMCC#84 - Snail Mail for You

Hi everyone,

Time for another Colour Me…! Card Challenge.  This week’s colour palette is totally awesome and I urge you join in the fun and let your creatively flow.

Here is my creation for this week’s inspiration with just two colours and using it in different ways to give a different look.

Step by step instructions

  1. On a water colour paper, wet the paper with thick brush and blend in distress markers Ripe Persimmon to create the background.
  2. When dry, use Tim Holtz Distress Marker Spritzer and spritz Ripe Persimmon all over.
  3. On a separate water colour paper, mask top two-third of the card for blending green background.  Use Distress Ink - Mowed Lawn and blend the background with blending tool.
  4. Stamp snail, large and small mushroom on a separate water colour paper with Versafine Onyx Black.  Let it dry and water colour using inks from Distress Markers Ripe Persimmon, Picket Fence and Antique Linen.  Fussy cut the images.
  5. Position the cut out images to ascertain the position to stamp the sentiment.  I ink half of the sentiment and stamp “snail mail” first.  Clean up the sentiment and then ink the other half of the sentiment “for you” and stamp.
  6. Adhere snail and mushroom to the watercolor paper with foam tape.
  7. Tie twine around it.
  8. Adhere this to the water coloured background using foam tape.
  9. Attach the whole design onto card base using double sided tape.

Sometimes, fussy cut is useful.  If you look at the stamp set, the mushrooms are two separate images.  What I have done here is to stamp them close together and cut them out as one piece.

Looking at all the different ways of applying distress markers ink, you will see that distress markers can be really versatile.

Different ways of application gives a very different effect.

I am using Distress Marker Spritzer to spritz the ink from the markers.  I find this tool really useful to give a lovely air brush effect.

Wow, Ren! I love how you were able to get so much dimension out of only two colours! Your card is wonderful, as they always are. I’ve said it before, and I’m sure I’ll say it again, but you have a way with cards that consistently inspires me :)
